1.lndia, Brunei sign pact on exchange of tax information

*The Union Government and Brunei signed an agreement for the Exchange of Information and Assistance in Collection with respect to Taxes (TIEA) in New Delhi on February 28, 2019.
*The agreement was signed by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman Pramod Chandra Mody, and High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to India Dato Paduka Haji Sidek Ali.
Key Highlights
* The agreement enables exchange of information, including banking and ownership information between the two countries for tax purposes.
*It is based on international standards of tax transparency and exchange of information and enables sharing of information on request as well as on automatic basis.
*The agreement also provides for mutual assistance in collection of tax revenue claims between both countries.


2.PNB comes first in executing 'reforms agenda'

*The BCG-IBA report EASE Reforms for Public Sector Banks (PSBs) was released on 28 February 2019.
*Punjab National Bank was ranked first among public sector banks in the implementation of 'reforms agenda'.
*The report measures the performance of each PSB on 140 objective metrics across six themes, including customer responsiveness, credit offtake, and digitalisation.


3.Cabinet approves Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN yojana

*The Union Cabinet approved the Pradhan Mantri Jl-VAN Yojana' (Jaiv Indhan- Vatavaran Anukool fasal Awashesh Nivaran) on 28 February 2019.
*The aim of the scheme is to provide financial support to Integrated Bioethanol Projects using lignocellulosic biomass and other renewable feedstock.
*The yojana will be supported with total financial outlay of Rs.1969.50 crore for 5 years.


4.Cabinet approves phase 2 of FAME scheme
*The Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved a Rs 10,000 crore package for the second phase of Faster Adoption & Manufacturing of Electric (and hybrid) vehicles (FAME) scheme on February 28.
*The phase2 will continue for three years till 31 March 2022.
*FAME Il will focus on the electrification of public transportation including 'shared transportation


5.Report on trade in South Asia released by WB 
*A report titled 'Exports to Jobs: Boosting the Gains from Trade in South Asia' was released by the World Bank on 28 February 2019.
*The report said the share of trade in India's GDP has fallen from 55.8% to 41.1% between 2012 and 2017
*The Indian economy grew at a rate of 7.2% in 2017, bringing down the number of people living in poverty.

6.STARS Scheme launched by HRD Ministry

*Ministry of   Human Resource Development (MHRD) launched STARS- Scheme for Translational and Advanced Research in Science to fund science projects.The ministry has approved funds worth Rs 250 crore for the scheme.
*These funds will be utilised to sponsor about 500 science projects.
*The project will be coordinated by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.


7. 2nd Edition of ISL Dictionary launched
*The 2nd Edition of Indian Sign Language (ISL) Dictionary was launched in New Delhi on 27 February 2019.
*The dictionary was developed by Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC) under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
*The first edition of the dictionary with three thousand words was launched in March 2018,


8.Government extends ban on SIMI
*The government of India has extended ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). lt was involved in a series of terror acts in the country, for five years.
*The Ministry of Home Affairs termed the SIMI as an unlawful association.
*The decision has been taken as the organizstion continues to indulge in subversive activities


9.K.L. Rahul only Indian in top 10 batsmen

*KL Rahul was the only Indian to feature in the top 10 batting list in the latest ICC T20 International Players Rankings released on 27 February 2019. Afghanistan's Hazratullah Zazai jumped 31 spots to be placed at career-best  seventh position.
*In the ICC Men's T20 International Team Rankings, India have retained their second position.


10.World Wildlife Day: 3 March 

*The World Wildlife Day is observed every year on 3 March.
*The theme for 2019 is 'Life below water for people and planet.
*The aim of the day is to celebrate and raise awareness of the world's wild fauna and flora.
*On this day, the Convention on international Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was adopted.



11.Rice Knowledge Bank launched
*Rice Knowledge Bank - Assam', an agriculture web portal was launched on 28 February 2019.
*The portal is a part of the World Bank funded project- Assam Agri-business and Rural Transformation (APART).
*The portal dedicated to enhancing knowledge on rice production techniques and technologies, best production practices and state agriculture facts.


12. Atal Innovation Mission partners with Adobe

*NITI Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and Adobe signed a Statement of Intent (SO1) on 27 February 2019.
*Adobe will adopt 100 schools under Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) initiative. Adobe will implement its Digital . Disha Program in ATLs, under which free licenses of Adobe Spark premium shall be offered to ATLs,

13.DRDO Chief aot Missile Systems Award 2019

*DRDO Chief G Satheesh Reddy was conferred with the prestigious 'Missile Systems Award 2019 for his leadership role in the Indian missile programmes.
*The award was conferred by American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
*The award recognises excellence in developing or implementing missile systems technology, and for inspired leadership of missile systems programs.

14.Heat Wave 2019: Workshop on Preparedness held

*A National workshop on Preparedness, Mitigation and Management of Heat Wave was conducted in Nagpur on 27 and 28 February 2019.
*It was conducted by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Government of Maharashtra,
*The workshop aims to sensitise States on the need of preparing and implementing specific Heat Action Plans in line with NDMA's national guidelines on Heat Wave


15.Senegal's President Macky Sall won second term

*On 28 February 2019, Senegal's President Macky Sall won a second term of five years.
*He got 58% of the vote in the poll in which he faced four candidates from other parties.
*He was first elected as President of Senegal in 2012.
*Senegal is a African country and its capital is Dakar and currency is West African CFA Franc.


16.RBI to infuse Rs 25,000 crore into banks 

*The Reserve Bank of India (RB) will infuse Rs 25,000 crore into the banking system through Open Market Operations (OMO).
*The RBl will conduct purchase of government securities through multi-security auction using the multiple price method.
*The decision on OMO is based on revievw of the evolving liquidity conditions in the banking system.


17. Rogerr Federer claims 100th title

*Roger Federer won the Dubai Tennis Open for the 8th time on 2 March 2019.
*He defeated Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final match.
*With this win, he claimed the 100th title of his remarkable career.
*He become the second male player to win 100 singles titles after American Jimmy Connors, who won 109 titles.


18.Kalashnikov rifles unit inaugurated in Amethi

*Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugu rated a Kalashnikov rifles manufacturing facility at Amethi in Uttar Pradesh on 3 March 2019.
*The facility has been set up by Indo-Russia Rifles Pvt Ltd, do-Russia Rifles Pvt Ltd is a joint venture between India's Ordnance factory and a Russian firm.
*The facility will produce the last series of Kalashnikov rifles in the Korwa Ordnance Factory


19.Crew Dragon spacecraft of SpaceX marked debut unmanned flight

*SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket carried the Crew Dragon spacecraft off the NASA's Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. Flight is intended to show the transport capabilities of SpaceX for International Space Station flights in future for humans


20.Indian wrestlers won 4 medals (2 golds) at a Bulgarian tournament

*At the Dan Kolov-Nikol Petrov tournament in Bulgaria, Bajrang Punia won gold in 65kg category & Pooja Dhanda claimed gold in the 59 kg one. Sakshi Malik & Sandeep Tomar won a silver medal in the 65kg and 61 kg category respectively


21.Rock the Night programme to be aired on DD
*Doordarshan launched Rock The Night to be aired on DD National, envisioned to act as a platform for indie rock bands from across the nation from Mizoram to Mumbai and from Arunachal to Bangalore to showcase their talent


22.Nobel laureate Zhores Alferov passed away at 88
